Perimetry Primer: Fundamentals of Visual Fields

Simplified, great vision is a simultaneous processing of central fine detail (visual acuity) and peripheral stimuli (visual field). From screening to suprathreshold visual fields, eyecare providers can employ perimetry to detect and monitor defects caused by neurologic, retina, or glaucomatous disease. This lecture aims to answer the questions, why we use visual fields, when to perform a visual field, what types of visual fields are available, and how to interpret the findings. New technologies and platforms for perimetry will be discussed. Attendees should leave this course with a heightened confidence on ordering and interpreting visual fields.

  • Great lecture. Speaker was very clear and concise/straightforward.

  • Wonderful back to basics then transitioning to new technology. Thank you.

  • This course was excellent for me because as a technician I want to be able to not just guide the patient through the visual field but read and understand the analysis.

  • Great review of basic concepts to in depth explanations/processes. Very helpful!
