Neurotrophic keratitis (NK), or neurotrophic keratopathy, is a disease that damages the corneal nerves. If untreated, it can worsen and cause corneal ulceration, scarring and vision loss. Risk factors of NK include chronic medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension), corneal injury, chronic inflammation from dry eye, contact lens wear and chronic use of topical medications (such as glaucoma medications).
