Christine Funke, MD
Dr. Christine Funke M.D. is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist who enjoys caring for a multitude of eye conditions including glaucoma, visually significant cataracts, diabetes, dry eye, and routine eye care. She grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and studied biology at the University of Notre Dame. After her undergraduate education, she earned her medical degree at Rush Medical College and completed her residency in Cleveland, Ohio at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Funke specializes in state of the art minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, trabeculotomies, tube implants, glaucoma laser surgery, complex cataract surgery, and combined cataract/glaucoma surgery.

Mark Barakat, MD
Mark Barakat received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed residency training as chief resident at Hahnemann University, followed by retina fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a retinal surgeon at Retinal Consultants of Arizona, Director of the Retinal Research Institute, Vice Chair of Clinical Research at American Vision Partners, Medical Director of Spectra Eye Surgery Center, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. He is beyond fortunate to have his wife, Monika, and his daughters, Jennah and Kathryn, to support him and remind him that there is life beyond retina.

David Kay, MD
Dr. David Kay is a board-certified eye physician and surgeon practicing in the Mesa and Scottsdale areas of Phoenix. Originally from Tucson, Dr. Kay completed medical school in Milwaukee at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After completing a transitional year internship with the Tucson Hospital Medical Education Program, he spent the next 3 years in Texas completing his residency with UT Health San Antonio, where he served as chief resident during his senior year. He received his glaucoma fellowship training at the University of Southern California Roski Eye Institute prior to moving home to Arizona where he currently practices.

Neal Palejwala, MD
Dr. Palejwala is a Phoenix native completing his high school education at Brophy College Preparatory. He then went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University where he was part of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then entered medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society and graduated summa cum laude. At Jefferson, he developed a passion for ophthalmology conducting multiple clinical research projects at Wills Eye Institute. He returned back to the valley for his internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and then went on to pursue a residency in ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. After the completion of his residency, he chose to further subspecialize in vitreoretinal surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. Dr. Palejwala joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2015.
